The Essential Camera Lenses

Published by Jennifer at 2:52 am under Camera Accessories

Camera lenses are an essential part of the camera because without the lens you will not be able to take pictures.  A camera lens allows you to view the photograph that you will be taking.  It is through the lens that you view the subject of your photograph because when you hit the button to take the picture, what you view through your camera lens will be the photograph that you get.

Light Hits the Film through the Lens

Camera lenses work by allowing light to reach the photographic film.  The light is used to imprint the image that is seen through the viewer onto the film.  A shutter within the camera works with the lens to time the exposure of the film to the image.  If you are taking a photograph under low light conditions, the shutter speed will be slower than if you had taken the photograph under strong light conditions.

The Amateur Photographer

You can find different camera lenses to suit your need and skill.  If you are like the average amateur photographer, you may find that the camera lenses that come with the automatic cameras is fine for your needs.  Even though it may be limited on the distances between the camera and its subject, it is useful for taking pictures while on vacation, family pictures and other casual photograph subjects.

The Serious Photographer

If you are a serious photographer, you will be interested in gaining greater flexibility in taking photographs from different distances.  For instance, you can use macro camera lenses for taking photographs of subjects that are tiny or for focussing on subjects that are close to the camera.  A telephoto lens will allow you to take clear pictures of subjects that are a greater distance away from the camera.

Flexibility and Convenience

A zoom lens offers you the option to extend the camera lens further out from the camera for long shots and to bring it back in for closer subjects.  You can also find cameras that have an automatic focus or a manual focus.  With an automatic focus, the camera will conveniently focus on the subject without your help while a manual focus allows you to focus on whatever particular area of your subject that you want to highlight.

You can find camera lenses to match your budget and expertise.  Some camera will allow you to use different camera lenses to suit your needs at any particular time.
