The all new iMac packs stunning design, professional performance, and revolutionary digital experience in one The new iMac comes in an all-in-one package where a high-performance computer is packed into attractively designed thin aluminum casing. It will have a glossy wide screen display measuring 20 to 24 inches. The aluminum enclosure is joined by an elegant glass cover creating a virtually seamless front surface. 

It is accompanied with the new ultra-thin aluminum Apple Keyboard which is just 0.33 inches thin at its front edge. And if you want to have a cable-free desktop, there is a new optional Apple Wireless Keyboard in a compact design with Apple’s wireless Mighty Mouse.

What inspired the idea of illuminated clothes?

It all started with a group of scientist’s quest for a new kind of light that can be more attuned to fluctuating moods of men. The researches were carried at Philips Photonic Textiles Business Group in the Netherlands under the leadership of Martjin Krans. They called this concept, “ambience intelligence”. The team under Krans ended up in concluding that not only the gadgets, but our clothing, bedroom linens and other fabric furnishing can also be used as the source of illumination.  

How did the technology evolve?

The first breakthrough came when they were able to incorporate small multicolored LEDs into the cloth, without compromising with its tactile quality. The result was shiny fabrics that diffused lights, but without making the cloth look like burning with light.  

The theory got translated into reality

To judge the practicality of the technology, it was applied to a range products including brightly lit reading pillow, sofa cushion that changes its colors and backpacks that display pre programmed messages or play music videos after being connected to MP3 players.  

The test proved to be extremely successful; since the unveiling of the technology in September 2005, Philips were reported to be inundated with industrial inquiries that included the manufacturers of automobile, corporate interior and ski apparel and many more.  

The power behind the illumination

Illuminated clothes are going to be powered by ordinary AA batteries. But the scientists are open to other advanced power sources and progress has been made in the areas of wearable foldable batteries. You will be able to easily recharge these batteries with movements. Experiments are also going on to develop garments to be powered by the thermal power of the wearer. Researches are also on the way to develop  powered coat hangers, that help keep the fabric fresh even inside the darkness of the wardrobe.  

How can illuminated clothes help the humanity?

Medical sector: The scientists are united in their opinion that it is the medical sector that is going to be benefited most from this wearable technology. The clothes that carry the power source in the yarns or weave tiny lamps emitting ultra violet lights could help patients maintain optimum body temperature, improved blood circulation, monitoring heart beats etc.   

As music playerOne German company uses this technology to produce a jacket that has keyboards in its sleeve, so that you can fine tune your music literally on your fingertips.  

MilitarySome researchers predict that the technology is going to revolutionize the entire military set up. 1. Apple is probably trying to make inroads into the markets of Asia and Europe where slimmer and smaller cell phones are more preferred. However, the skeptics are of the opinion that it can turn out to be an engineering challenge to pack all the punches of iPhone in a device as small as an iPod Nano.

2. Some quarter is of the opinion that Apple is contemplating a cheaper version of the iPhone on the design of Nano. This new version is going to be cheaper by some $300 making it more affordable than the iPhone priced at $500-600. Even if the Nano based iPhone will definitely have limited functionality (the absence of touch screen interface is definitely a big miss), the lower price tag will help reach the iPhone technology into the hands of more users world wide.

Let’s find out what market analysts have to say about the future of this cheaper and slimmer iPhone.

Presently in the USA, 85% of the consumers are not ready to invest more than $100 in cell phones. So the high price tag of the iPhone is going to have a limited customer base in the cell phone market. On the other hand, with iPhone getting cheaper – Apple; already an unquestionable leader in the digital music player market, could emerge as a tough competitor  to long-established phone giants such as Nokia, Motorola Inc, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson.  

The world, as Chang believes, is going to get its second generation, cheaper iPhone in 2008. The lower price tag can help sell some 30 to 40 million units – predicts the industry watchers.
